Internet

Information about the technologies used to provide Netia's fiber optic Internet service.

Netia's stationary Internet is based mainly on modern fiber optic technologies and hybrid networks. The three most common solutions in residential buildings are PON, ETTH and HFC. Each works differently, but they all share a common goal – to provide stable and fast Internet access for individual users.

PON – fiber directly to the apartment

PON (Passive Optical Network) technology is the latest and most efficient way to deliver Internet. Fiber runs from the central office all the way to the subscriber's premises, with no active elements along the way.

Advantages:

  • very high speeds (up to 2 Gb/s),
  • stable connection independent of distance from the transmitter,
  • low latency – important for gaming, video conferencing and streaming.

This solution is typical for modern housing estates and buildings where the network has been modernized.

ETTH – fiber in the building, Ethernet in the apartment

In ETTH, the fiber ends in the basement or technical shaft, and Ethernet cabling runs from that point to the apartments.

Advantages:

  • very high speeds,
  • predictable stability,
  • low susceptibility to interference.

This is a commonly used compromise in older buildings where it is difficult to run fiber all the way to the apartment.

HFC – hybrid fiber and coaxial cable

HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) technology combines fiber to the building with coax to the apartment. This is the typical infrastructure of former cable TV networks.

Advantages:

  • high real throughput,
  • resistance to external conditions,
  • ability to simultaneously transmit Internet and TV signals.

This is a stable solution in places where upgrading to full fiber is impossible or would require major building intervention.

Devices used in Netia

Netia provides subscribers with equipment tailored to the technology in which the service operates:

The subscriber does not need to buy a router – the equipment is leased and replaced by Netia in case of failure.
